You know being an adult; I have noticed a lot of things. Some of these things are the fact that people don’t really know how to drive and people don’t know how to obey laws. I was raised to do what is right, even when no one is looking. I will say that I often wonder why should I do what is right when everyone else get rewarded for not doing what is right? Allow me to present some examples…
Directional signals. In order to receive our driver’s license we have to pass the rules of the road. One item on this test is the ability to use directional signals, and back in the 80’s, one would have to use not only directional signals, but have to be able to use hand signals as well. Many drivers cut in front of me and others without using their directional signals. Is it me, or as anyone else find it very interesting when a police car is following them, or in the area, people will remember the rules of the road and use their directional signal? However, as soon as those police officers go their own way, people forget the rules of the road and don’t use their directional signal. In fact, Those that don’t use their signals are very quick to flick a person off, talk about that person, or have road rage when other drivers do the same thing they do… cutting in front of others and not using their directional signal.
Texting and Talking on the Phone without hands free. Texting while driving is illegal, yet people do it every day. People put their phone on speaker, yet it is still illegal because they don’t have hands free. I know of a woman that drives with her phone to her ear and the excuse she gave “they cannot see at night if you are on the phone or not, so what is the big deal?” Say that to a family that lost their loved ones due to the same situation or due to someone texting. Again, people know it is illegal and when the police are around, they don’t dare touch their phone.
Right of Way. I have seen people get into fender benders because of right of way issues. When the light is green and a person is turning on the side of their own traffic, they have the right of way, unless the like turns yellow. If the light is green and the car is turning across the traffic, they must wait for cars to come the opposite way in order to complete the turn. So many times the car turning hits the car that is turning the same way, when the one turning across traffic does not have the right of way.
Out of all of this, do you want to know what I really take in from these experiences? People say they are Christians, yet are they living or exhibiting Christian values? I am not judging, just pointing out if a person say one thing, they should exhibit that one thing, yes? Everyone drinks, and I am no exception, but I don’t go over my limit and get behind the wheel. Even Jesus says everything in moderation. Having road rage and not obeying the rules of the road when the police is not around; is that being a Christian? Hating someone due to their race or national origin, is that being a Christian? My mother has this saying, and I often think of it, which is why I am cursed with doing what is right, even when no one is looking or noticing. She would say “how can I be a Christian when I cannot follow laws of the land, which most are based on God’s law.” So how can we claim Christianity when we don’t exhibit what is Christian?
