There had been issues that arise during the beginning of time in this new world we call America. One major issue is the question of equality which haunts all people of African descent and it’s the same question that people of European descent choose to ignore; or put restrictions on. Another issue in America is how loosely the word “nigger” is used by not just the people of African descent, but of all people and why.
Let’s look at the word “nigger.” What does it really mean? If you ask your relative, friend, or any other person all over the world, they would say it means a black person. It is a racial slur to degrade black people. We can say the Spaniards or the French came up with this word. It is not true. The Spaniards say “Negro” which is nowhere near the word “nigger.” The French say “Negre” which is, again, nowhere near the word “nigger.” So how do people in the English language come up with this word? Is it the same as other people call people who light white and those who are dark black? I bet people never look at the definition before making an application that talks about… please choose a race. Merriam-Webster defines black as being people of African or dark pigmentation of the skin. Could this mean those from the country of India are considered black since they have dark pigmentation? Yet, as you keep reading Merriam-Webster’s definition of black, it states thoroughly sinister or evil, wicked, very sad, gloomy, etc. Can you say that every black person you had come in contact with is wicked or evil as stated by Merriam-Webster? So why is black used to describe ALL people of African descent who are of dark pigmentation? The reason why I say of dark pigmentation is due to the fact there are those of light pigmentation who are African as well. Merriam-Webster defines white as being people of European or light pigmentation of the skin. Yet, as you keep reading Merriam-Webster’s definition of white, it states innocent, pure, not intended to cause harm, etc. Can you say that every white person you had come in contact with is innocent or never meant any harm as stated by Merriam-Webster? So why is white used to describe ALL people of European descent? It still does not prove that “nigger” means black because it is a word made up word. I don’t know how others get “nigger” out of negro or negre, unless they wanted to make up a word and call it black or do it out of their ignorance. A lot of people use this word very loosely in their everyday conversations. Why use a word when it plainly states it is used as a racial slur to degrade a group of people? If a person is in a wheelchair, do you believe that person would want to be called handicapped rather than a cripple? Hulk Hogan, a famous wrestler with friends of all races, was even caught using the word “nigger.” When being interviewed about his daughter’s relationship with a guy of African descent, he said “I mean, I’d rather if she was going to fuck some nigger, I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall nigger worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player! I guess we’re all a little racist. Fucking nigger.” Would he be just fine if Brooke was to date a guy of European descent who lived in a trailer? Later, Hulk Hogan, also known as Terry Bollea, apologized by saying that is not who he is. People tend to say what is on their mind. As the saying goes… give it time and people will expose their true colors. Okay, I am paraphrasing that saying. After exposure from the media and thinking about what was actually said, WWE removed him for the WWE Hall of Fame. Terry said he is disappointed in who he is because of such language. Is he, or is he ashamed that he got caught being himself in his first mind? It is amazing how I looked up to him when I first started watching wrestling as he would often say to the audience to take your vitamins and say your prayers. Now, I question who he were speaking to.
In the King James Version of the Holy Bible, there are two verses that state all men are created equal. Genesis 1:27 state “So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Galatians 3:28 state “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” These two versus, out of many more versus, plainly state all men are created equal.
Even former President Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address said all men are created equal. The second paragraph in the Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Some people have an issue with the term “self-evident.” Self-evident merely mean evident without proof or reasoning. The Bible provides the information needed in which the Declaration of Independence is based upon in regards to all men are created equal.
There are some who want to argue that all men are not created equal. I don’t want to go on a preaching rant, so I will try to keep this short. I believe Dr. Kathryn Seifert misunderstood what is behind the actual meaning of “all men are created equal.” As stated in Genesis, God created man in his own image. This means all men are PERFECT in the image of God. Our bodies, our brain, our organs, our systems, etc. are from God and created by God as if He was looking in the mirror at Himself. As man began to sin and fall, their minds began to change. I believe she is talking about after the fall of man regarding the changing of the mind. After all, Jesus said the wages of sin is death. In short, Jesus said He came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it. The New Testament reiterates the issue of proving all men are created equal in Galatians 3:28. As far as the President goes, he is the one that pardon a racist police sheriff before his sentencing. To me, that displays a very clear message. President Trump wants to say some are born beautiful and some are not. Some are born smart and others are not. This gives the reasoning for his statement back in 2009. However, the Old Testament says we are created in God’s image and after the fall of man, the New Testament says we are still equal. This would mean even after the fall of man, there are some not born smart and others are born smart. There are some born beautiful and others not born beautiful. The one thing that really bothers me that I must write about is a writer from Christianity Today who believes the Bible never said all men are created equal. I think the writer is missing the point. Earlier, I wrote we are all created in His image. Things changed after the fall of man, BUT we are all still created in His image in body.
It’s really a shame that we are still fighting the Civil War today. It is true the Civil War is over and we knew and understood who the enemy was. In today’s world, the enemies are all around us without sheets, hoods, and without the confederate uniform. What is the difference between then and now? Back then, people did things more in the open. Today, people are more subtle in their comments and police are on a rampage in killing the less fortunate.
